Duck Duck Duck....

Bored today? Whaaaaat? Aren't you going to go see Harry Potter and the First Six Movies; 6 Movies, 2 Guys, 1 Hour, No Shame (Improvised/Sketch Harry Potter)? See it at 2pm at SVT (free!) and then again at 9pm at Hickory Street Grill. I'll be at the 2pm show, fo sho!

Are you already thinking about next weekend? I AM! It's going to be an Austin-action-packed weekend as usual. Hopefully, I'll be winning an award at the Austin Bleet-Up on December 3rd at 7pm. Click the link to RSVP! Lotsa free samples and bloggy fun. Dontcha know we're the number one city in the world for blogging? We're #1! We're #1!

Then I'm off to see The Duck Variations at Hyde Park Theatre at 10:30pm. The amazing folks at dystheatre have been rehearsing day and night for this one-night only jam-packed with talent performance that you don't want to miss. Seriously. You'll thank me later. Pay-whatcha-want, but keep in mind, they are raising money for their next production, True West.

Can't wait to see ya out and about!

Say Yes Stories and Adventures in A-Town

Oh my God guys! I have been ALL over this little city with the help of GoLocal and their scavenger hunt last Sunday. Thanks to Todd for the most bitchin' team shirts anyone could ask for.

But last week, we went to a Thrillist Preview Party for Pinballz Arcade, and I have to tell you guys, this place is AWESOME. I ran around squealing like a little girl at all the super sweet old school games they have. Ninja Turtles!! Sonic!! Crusin' USA! They even have competitive soccer pinball. Basically, if you played it as a kid, it's there. This place is huge, available for parties, and they have memberships available for discounts and competitions against other members. Doors open this Saturday, so I'll see you there!

Then we went to Mikado Ryotei for some sushi before a show. As you may know, I'm on the hunt for the best Philadelphia roll in Austin, and surprisingly this one took first place! For now. The pieces were huge and filled to the brim with flavor. The miso soup was so good I almost ordered another bowl. Oh and service? Yes. Fantastic. I can totally see this becoming a Saturday night ritual. A little pinball, a couple of philly rolls, sleep, repeat. And just FYI, here's my list so far: Mikado Ryotei, Kenichi, and Silhouette.

After we had enough mouth-watering food fun for one night, we headed over to SVT to check out the Saturday Night Special with Get-Up and Secondhand. It was amazing! Secondhand works in the style of Sarah Ruhl, the playwright who is responsible for my favorite play ever, Melancholy Play. I'll keep you posted on their upcoming shows!

So before you check out Pinballz this weekend, check out Sounds Like Fun! Competitive Charades, Part Duh at The Highball. Competitive Charades. Seriously. If you want to register your team or reserve space in the audience, email austinsoundslikefun@gmail.com. What will they think of next?

As you know, this blog is called Say Yes and it's not only a name but a lifestyle for me. It started out as an experiment, saying yes to every opportunity that presented itself, and the results were so freakin' amazing, I had to keep doing it and eventually share my enthusiasm and results. I've got lots of stories of how fun and how surprising it's been, but here's one story. I said yes to tons and tons of improv shows, and got to know a lot of the improvisers, like Tom Booker and Asaf Ronen. I found out about free classes, and took one at the Institution Theater. There I met Joel, who ended up being my scavenger hunt buddy, and holds awesome Dexter parties at his house on Sundays. But he's also putting on some shows. Harry Potter and the First Six Movies or 6 Movies, 2 Guys, 1 Hour, No Shame as it's come to be known will be blowing your mind this month and the next. Joel and Patrick will be dishing up everything you need to know about Harry Potter in just one hour, next weekend, 2pm, at SVT. So catch them before you see the next movie, because we all know you don't have time to re-read all the books. Even on your Kindle.

But what I'm trying to say is, everyone in Austin is awesome and does so many amazing things. I say yes to one show, meet one person, and find out they are involved in a world of other innovative, creative, never been done before things. It's mindblowing to know that kind of energy and creativity exists everywhere I go in this city. So Say Yes to a couple of things and see how it goes.

I liked this. Look forward to more say yes stories.

In the meantime, please consider voting for Say Yes Austin in the Austin Blogger Awards. I work hard on this blog for free and absolutely love it, but an award and a couple more fans wouldn't hurt :) SPREAD THE WORD! You can vote until midnight on the 24th. Do it now! Here are my choices:

Say Yes All The Way

Sorry Austin, I've been cheatin' on ya with the other love of my life, New York! But I'm glad to be back and am already jazzed about the upcoming events this month.

If you've been wondering where all the trailers have been disappearing to, it's likely they are setting up shop on Auditorium Shores for the first ever Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival. It's tomorrow (or today, since I'm writing this at 3am) from 11am-8pm and it will be jam packed with $3 sample plates from your soon-to-be favorite trailers. It's free to attend, but bring some cash, your kids, and your Fidos. Do I have any recommendations? Oh yeah, just a few. The Jalopy for some sweet-ass sandwiches, Gourdough's and Banarchy for dessert, Izzoz Tacos and Holy Cacao for a snack, and a little coffee from Patika Coffee. Go ahead, partake. You can burn it off later as you take on Team Say Yes in the GoLocal Scavenger Hunt next week.

It's a city-wide scavenger hunt happening on the 14th of this month. It'll be an all day affair with sign-ups at 11, hunting from 12-4, and free feasting from 4-6. You need to preregister your team of 2-4 ahead of time, as they will only be accepting 300 people, so do it soon! The cost is $25 and the proceeds will support the Austin Zoo. I look forward to seeing you out there and winning first, second, or third prize!

If you've got an extra $125 saved up, check out Luminalia: An Evening of Celestial Delight at Umlauf Sculpture Garden, also this Sunday. Your ticket includes dinner, poetry, and dance with a 17th century Shakespearean feel. They even have special costumes for rent at Costume World. Should be a classy time!

In the meantime, don't forget to stock up on a winter wardrobe this Veteran's Day (that's the 11th) at Saver's. If you don't know by now, these sales are the BEST! The BEST, Jerry, the best! (By the way, he's coming to town!) Both stores will be participating and you can shop till you drop from 7am-9pm. I'm a size small. Wink. Don't forget to get a stamp card while you are there, so you can earn 30% off your next purchase just for donating or spending a few bucks.

Celebrity Autobiography also opens this week at the Long Center, so get your tickets now. The Tom Booker we all know and love from Confidence Men will be up on stage reading true excerpts from celebrity autobiographies, so it should be as awesome as a double rainbow, all the way.

I really hope to see you all out and about this week, enjoying the weather and soaking up this beautiful city!
