A Week's Worth of Saying Yes

I'm headed off to Minneapolis this week, but in the meantime, I'll leave you with a few ways to enjoy the city while I'm gone.

You want to hear some live music? Of course you do. Today, Two Tons of Steel plays in Scholz's Beer Garten at 7:30pm. Check Scholz's out every Wednesday for a new band and brew. Some other options include Carolyn Wonderland at Blues on the Green, or the KVET Free Texas Music Series at Hill's Cafe.

This Thursday drink up with the TIKKR Pub Crawl. The crawl starts at Dirty Bill's (my favorite 6th street bar), at 8pm. Show up with a TIKKR watch and get your drinks for free.

I'd usually recommend Sunset Supper & Cinema at Whole Foods on Friday, but it has been postponed, so stay tuned! So instead, go check out a show at the Hideout Theatre.

If you're not too exhausted by Sunday, enjoy some Austin adventure on your bike for the Urban Assault Ride. If you are too exhausted, well, just sit back and people-watch. That's the beauty of Austin!

I'll try to keep you updated from the road, but if not, enjoy Austin (I already miss Kick Butt Coffee, Barton Springs, and Jalopy). See you soon!

Daniel Johnston's Only Show in 2010

Daniel Johnston will be playing his only Austin performance of 2010, tomorrow night at the Mohawk. Other local acts include Jason Falkner, Bracket & Co., Sour Notes, and Matt Bearden. This is an all-ages show, and will cost you $12-$15. Don't miss it!

Say Yes to Sunset Supper & Cinema

Oh, Summer. What a Say Yes Summer! It's a scorcher out there, but cool off tonight with Blazing Saddles on the rooftop plaza of Whole Foods on 6th and Lamar. Sunset Supper & Cinema is bringing you a movie and three-course themed menu, with vegetarian options, every Friday. Seating starts at 7:30, but try to get there a bit early to snag a seat.

You gotta see it to believe it, but the experience is remarkable every time.

Say Yes, On MTV?

Please vote for me here (@sayyesaustin) to become a Twitter Jockey for MTV. If I win everyone gets a hoagie.

Feels like an Emo's Week

I got my ticket to MewithoutYou at Emo's the day they went on sale, and the show has finally arrived tonight! MC Chris is playing tomorrow, who I've seen before and highly recommend seeing. I wasn't going to go, but since I found out MC Lars is also performing, and they have a great/funny song together that I love and play for everyone, I've decided to do the Emo's thing two nights in a row. So if you love live music and are free the next couple of nights, come join me in the mosh pit or the big nerd-rap group hug.

Thursday night, I plan on seeing Bug at Hyde Park Theatre. It's about crack, comes highly recommended by my theater buff friends, and Thursday night happens to be pay-what-you-want. I'll see ya there at 8pm.

Theater, Sock-Hop and Say Yes, Oh My!

I know, it's been forever. I had an out of town guest stay with me for a week, and I nearly exploded from all the excitement of showing him Austin for the first time. He thoroughly enjoyed it and hopes to move here one day! It was amazing being able to re-discover the things I love, and discover new things about the city. Over the course of the week, we said YES to: Toy Joy, Spiderhouse, Barton Springs, Improv at the Hideout Theatre, Clem Snide at Mohawk, random photo shoots in fields, impromptu dance parties in parking lots, Town Lake/Butler Park, Bouldin Creek Cafe, Gourdough's, Summermoon Cafe, Shakespeare in the Park, Crave Sushi, Silhouette, Casey's Snowballs (twice!), Polvo's, hanging out with random strangers in their home, Exquisite Zombie meet-up, Swing Dancing, Jalopy, Whataburger (he had never been), Magnolia, 360 Bridge (a first for me!), and literally, if there was anything else, I'm surprised we didn't explode! But I'm back now, with a new energy and enthusiasm, to tell you where to be and when!

Avoid the Rot Rally rush and attend some theater tonight!

Tonight, I'd recommend catching the last show of 69 Love Scenes at Salvage Vanguard Theater. It's at 8pm tonight and $5-10 dollars. It's loosely based on the Magnetic Fields album, 69 Love Songs. Enjoy!

Also on a theater note, Zilker Hillside Theatre is putting on "Pop's Concert in the Park" tonight at 8pm. Admission is free and the setting is family friendly. Annie will be coming to this theater in July, so stay tuned for updates!

You'll want to take it easy tonight anyway, so you can Say Yes to the Second Sunday Sock-Hop at Shangri-La. This one is super-special, because they are turning 4! Dancing starts at 9pm, but get there early and snag a free mix CD. Bring $5 to get in, and don't forget your dancing shoes.
