More importantly, we drank our way through two bottles. We had the ’08 Martin Codax Albarino, which was really refreshing. We tried the LaMarca Prosecco next, and it was equally delicious. The service was great, very prompt, and our waiter was friendly. The outdoor area was perfect. I wouldn't mind going back right now!

Say Yes Sunday!
What a glorious Say Yes Sunday. I was going to walk over to Congress and give Snack Bar another try, but after I saw that they no longer carry their egg benedicts, I decided on Magnolia. But since I took so long walking down South First Street (taking about 200 pictures), I decided on Polvos. It was SO good. I got two breakfast tacos with egg, spinach, tomato, and cheese. They were HUGE and I ate every last bite and almost licked the plate. It was perfect weather out on the patio, so I just sipped my coffee, read a bit, and enjoyed the people watching. After breakfast, I called a friend to see if he wanted to meet me at 04, and we decided to meet there in a few hours. I walked home, and then found out that Spiderhouse was having a Junk Fest to save the Cathedral of Junk. M came and picked me up and it was awesome! You could make a mini Cathedral, they had a raffle and silent auction, live music, and fun people. I became a junkie!

(and woke up with marker all over my bed and face).
K came and picked me up and we ended up at Shady Grove because I decided I was hungry. I had the best Mexican Martini, it was incredibly delicious. The Hippie Sandwich and half salad was amazingly tasty as well. I ran into a friend from school and we got to catch up a bit. K and I finally made it to 04 and I consumed many different colored jello shots and some other tasty drinks.
Bliss!

Scavenger hunts, moshpits, shots!
Yesterday was the perfect Say Yes night. I met up with #36 at Jo's to do a trial run of a scavenger hunt event for SXSW, put on by ESET.
It was really easy, fun, full of a freebies (water, Cliff Bars, monitor spray). The first 100 people got a copy of their Antivirus software, and everyone was entered to win a laptop. They will be doing it all again during SXSW so I hope I can catch it.
After a cup of coffee, some good conversation, and seeing Leslie, I hopped on a bus to Emo's to see Glassjaw. I was kind of bummed because I found out the show started at 10, with no opening band, and I was there an hour early. I sat at the bar and watched American X. It was pretty intense (never seen it before), and Ed Norton is HOT!
ANYWAY, I heard the music starting so I chugged my drink and jumped in the pit. I had a blast sweating and screaming with all my new sweating and screaming friends. Glassjaw rocked the house, of course. Thanks to Emo's for bringing 'em in!
I headed over to Cheers Shot Bar for 2 shots and a drink (to meet the credit card minimum) and met up with my friend who kindly listened to my drunk ramble and repeated stories and got me home safe!
Best Night Ever!

Seinfeld Triva at The Highball (Geeks Who Drink)

Our team, Rochelle Rochelle, got 4th place out of 53 teams! This was because my parents came in from Houston and secretly believe George and Jerry are their real friends.
It was my first time at The Highball, and wow. This place is classic. The food wasn't really my style, but we had a cheese plate, fries, and chicken and dumplings (which comes with a salad). I thought everything needed a bit more flavor. But I was just there for the company and drinks. I would totally stop by and drink at the bar weekly if I could afford it (Tito's is 6 bucks). At the end of the night, I gave my credit card to our waiter, Kyle (he was great), and told him to surprise me with a drink. He brought me a delicious fizzy cocktail.
I'm not going to write about Geeks Who Drink because I'm not sure I can form an opinion after this one-time special event. I can't remember if I've done trivia with them before. I'll give them another shot before I say anything.
I love themed trivia and I hope they do this or something similar again soon!
Date & Dash at Submerged
According to Speed Dater #36, I should make the post I've been meaning to make about the Date & Dash event I went to at Submerged on Feb. 23rd.
I got an email from Eventful about a Date & Dash event, and I noticed it was free for the first twenty people (usually $35). I thought it'd be fun to cover for the blog, so I signed up. Earlier in the day, Austinites had braved the Snowpocalypse of 2010, but they still turned out for the event.
There were about twenty or thirty daters, and I got three minutes with each of them. The women had assigned seats, and the men rotated around. The host gave everyone a numbered sheet of paper with room to take notes and circle yes or no to each date. At the end of the night, you gave part of the paper back to the host so she can enter your matches for you if you forget. It's really low pressure, and I think the timing of 3 minutes is just right.
It was a lot of fun! I was totally skeptical about the whole thing, which was another reason I wanted to do it. I was 98% sure I wouldn't meet ANYONE I'd be interested in, as I'm pretty particular and not really the dating type. But I was really surprised to meet some interesting people. I was sort of hoping for some crazy stories (think 40 Year Old Virgin), but apparently Speed Dater #36 was on the receiving end of that. The girl I was sitting next to mentioned that she just wanted to talk to a lot of these guys, because they were cool, but not necessarily date them. I felt the same way, but I was afraid to circle yes and contact them after, because I figured they would have different expectations. So, if I went again, I might figure some way around that. I would suggest making sure you're keeping track of your date's number, because towards the end I realized people weren't in order and it threw all of my notes off. (But the host was very helpful and gave me the list again).
It was my first time at Submerged also, which is located at the very end of 2nd Street. They have coed bathrooms, which I thought was cool. They have a cozy VIP room available as well.
Number #36's view? Here you go:
When I signed up, I didn't have a genuine interest in going speed dating. In fact, I originally planned on creating a pseudonym and wearing a disguise, but in the interest of genuinely trying something new, I went as myself.
When I arrived at Submerged around 8, there weren't more than a dozen people there. My heart sank and I became even more skeptical of the entire "speed dating" experience. When the event actually started, however, there were at least 20 women, and I suspect there roughly as many men too.
As a gent, (and the following opinions may not be representative of the group) I did not expect to meet anyone or make any special connections. My goal was to have as much fun as possible (which ended up being a lot more than I thought).
Even the crazies, which made up about a quarter of the opposite sex, were entertaining.
All-in-all, I recommend going speed dating, even if you're not looking for a relationship. As the Great One once said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
